Guatemala Mission Trip

We just returned from a 10-day mission trip to Guatemala from July 10th-20th.  Four of us from The JUVY Project joined some dear friends, Ken and Sue Weslander, and their church from Chicago. We were based in San Lucas and ministered in 5 different locations.  This was a life-changing trip that will impact our group and the Guatemalan people for years to come. We spent time with 30 sexually and physically abused 3-5 year old preschoolers at The Door in La Puerta, where Sonia, a woman in her 60’s, takes these precious little ones off the View Full Size street and into her own home for 5 days a week.  No one knows the birthdate of these invisible children, so we threw a birthday party for them where each one was sung to, celebrated, and given a special birthday gift.  We preached to 240 children in 2nd-6th grades in Getsemani School in San Lucas, where some of the suggested topics were witchcraft, homosexuality, sexual abuse, and other adult themes. We visited Rehoboth Children’s Home which takes in orphans ages 6-14 and offers them housing, schooling, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  They recently purchased an additional adjacent piece of property to care for unwanted handicap children.  It was on this piece of property the men on our team built a concrete block wall.  Mike said he has never worked that hard in his entire life!  We spent a day at One Hope Ministries in Antigua where we took on a huge painting project, inside and outside of their home, along with designing and constructing a large wooden storage cabinet for them.  One of the highlights of our trip was the time spent with the...
